KOHIMA: On Monday morning, a fire in Upper Khel, Aonglenden Ungma, Nagaland, completely destroyed one home and partially damaged two others. According to the officer responsible for Fire & Emergency Services, the fire commenced at approximately 9:20 a.m.
Fire engines were promptly dispatched from the Marepkong and Sungkomen fire stations following the distress call. The fire was also extinguished with the assistance of the Assam Rifles.
The fire only affected the three houses in the area, and no other structures were damaged, despite the fact that it was crowded. Fortunately, no one was injured. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
In the meantime, a significant fire broke out in the Sisa Golai area of Gangtok at approximately noon last week, resulting in the destruction of a residence. The fire brigade’s prompt response to the swiftly spreading flames averted further damage. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted rapidly and consumed the home at approximately 12:00 PM. Firefighters promptly arrived at the location and contained the flames prior to their propagation to the adjacent structures.
No casualties were reported. Akshay Sachdeva, the Director General of Police (DGP) of the Sikkim Police, verified that the local police from Sadar Police Station and the fire department responded promptly. The fire may have been initiated by a cylinder explosion, according to the investigations.
Emergency responders were granted unobstructed access by traffic units that were deployed to redirect vehicles. DGP Sachdeva observed that the police, with the help of local residents, had promptly removed gas cylinders in the vicinity to reduce the likelihood of further incidents. The precise cause of the fire was still being investigated.
