
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Biren Singh inaugurated 24 projects, including the district early intervention center at the district hospital, the Bailey Suspension Bridge (360ft span) over the Barak River on the Tamenglong Tousem-Haflong road, and various water supply schemes at the Tamenglong district headquarters.
In addition, he established the groundwork for 18 distinct projects, such as the construction of type-II, III, and IV quarters for Tamenglong, Tamei, and Tousem police stations, as well as type-II quarters for Kaimai police station, according to a DIPR release.
The chief minister addressed the crowd at Apollo Ground, declaring that Tamenglong will serve as the gateway to Manipur due to the improved road connectivity, which will provide a new quality of living.
He stated that the construction of the Tamenglong-Mahur road (NH-137) is currently underway. Upon its completion, individuals will be able to readily access Assam without the need to travel through Nagaland to reach Guwahati.
“However, it is imperative that we remain vigilant regarding the potential for a significant number of illegal immigrants to enter the Tamenglong-Mahur road, which connects Assam. This poses a significant threat to the indigenous people of Manipur…” He stated, “Let us avoid becoming a state like Tripura, where the indigenous population is in significant danger.”
Singh encouraged contractors who were unable to complete the work within the designated time frame to refrain from hiring contractors from the government. He further stated that the government will only award contracts to contractors who are capable of performing their duties with integrity.
The chief minister pledged to elevate Tamenglong to the status of the state’s most advanced district.
The chief minister outlined the numerous initiatives his government had implemented to promote the welfare and development of the state’s residents. He also noted that the BJP-led government has implemented numerous developmental projects, despite the numerous challenges the state is currently confronting.
He stated, “The BJP-led government fulfills its commitments; we will not compromise on the quality of our work. We are confident that development initiatives will be implemented equally in both the hills and valleys.”
The chief minister also expressed apprehensions about the potential impact of illicit immigration on local tribes, emphasizing the necessity of implementing stringent measures to safeguard the cultural heritage of the Liangmai, Rongmei, Inpui, and Zeme communities.
Dr. Chambo Gonmei, the state health director, received the Blood Bank license from the chief minister during the event. It may have been mentioned that Tamenglong is the sole hill district in Manipur that has blood banks.
In the interim, the chief minister announced on x that the 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will commence on February 10.
The chief minister presided over a cabinet meeting at the Tamenglong district headquarters that resolved the decision to convene the first session of the current year, 2025.
The cabinet also made significant decisions regarding the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 and the ratification of the Draft Manipur Tenancy Bill, 2025.
Singh wrote in the post that the cabinet also deliberated on a comprehensive city mobility plan for the Thoubal and Imphal districts.
The cabinet meeting at Tamenglong district headquarters was conducted as part of the chief minister’s tour of the district headquarters, which included his cabinet ministers.
The chief minister and his cabinet ministers were visiting the hill district after having visited Tengnoupal and Kamjong districts on January 20 and 21, respectively.
